Check for problems
- Look for woodworm holes, water rings and hidden cracks.
- Inspect upholstered items closely for bed bugs — check seams and underneath.
- Ask why they're selling and how old it is.
Logistics
Measure the piece and your doorways, stairs and lift before you commit. Factor in van hire or delivery when comparing prices.
