**Backend Developer**
We are looking for a **Backend Developer** who possesses a strong architectural understanding of how the web works from end-to-end. While your primary focus will be building server-side logic, you must have a “full-stack mental model”- specifically, how the frontend and backend integrate and how data travels across the entire system.
**About the Role**
This position is for someone who values **integration** as much as the code itself. You do not need to be a UI designer, but you must understand how frontend frameworks consume your APIs. You should be able to visualize the full lifecycle of a web request, from the browser’s initial call to the backend’s database query and back again.
**Key Responsibilities**
* **API Architecture & Integration:** Build and manage RESTful APIs with a deep focus on how they will be consumed by the frontend.
* **Backend-to-Frontend Connectivity:** Ensure data exchange between the server and the browser is seamless, efficient, and structured correctly for the UI.
* **Endpoint Logic:** Develop clear API endpoints and understand the specific requirements (authentication, data formatting, and latency) that the frontend team needs to build a working website.
* **System Troubleshooting:** Debug issues that occur at the integration layer, identifying whether a problem lies in the API design, the data flow, or the server configuration.
* **Web Ecosystem Management:** Maintain a deep understanding of how websites function, including DNS, HTTP protocols, headers, and browser-side data handling.
**What We’re Looking For**
* **The “Full-Stack” Mindset:** You understand the “why” behind the frontend’s requests. You can anticipate what data a frontend developer needs before they ask for it.
* **API Mastery:** You have a deep understanding of API endpoints, request methods (GET, POST, etc.), and status codes. You know how to structure an API so it is “plug-and-play” for the web interface.
* **Integration Fluency:** You understand how JSON data is parsed by the frontend and how to design schemas that don’t overcomplicate the client-side logic.
* **Technical Literacy:** You understand the core technologies of the web (HTML/CSS/JS) well enough to discuss technical constraints with the frontend team, even if you aren’t the one building the UI.
**Technical Skills**
* **Backend Languages:** Proficiency in Node.js, Python, Go, or similar server-side environments.
* **Web Mechanics:** Deep knowledge of the Request/Response cycle, CORS, Cookies, and JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
* **Databases:** Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases and how to map their data to an API.
* **Tools:** Expert use of Postman, Insomnia, or Swagger to test and document how your backend integrates with other services.
**What Won’t Work Here**
* A “siloed” approach to coding, building backend logic without talking to the frontend team.
* Lacking curiosity about how the browser handles the data you send.
* Designing endpoints that are difficult for others to understand or integrate.
